Activities
Excellent hiking trails abound in the Kirkland Lake district. While
serious hikers are likely to combine hiking with canoeing expeditions
and mountain bike treks, there are a host of great day trips for
the more casual enthusiast.
Esker
Lakes Provincial Park offers a number of short, easy jaunts
with such colourful names as The Lonesome Bog Trail and the Trappers
Trail. A bit more challenging but still within the capabilities
of most weekend enthusiasts is the 45-minute climb up Mount
Cheminis. Other opportunities can be found throughout the district
on crown land as well as within other provincial parks. One of the
best spots is Kap
Kig Iwan Provincial Park, located just outside the Town of Englehart.
There, trails will take you through incredible country complete
with towering deciduous trees, primeval boreal forests and picturesque
waterfalls.
