Activities
The pristine waters of the north make the region a canoer’s paradise.
Some of the best trips around Kirkland Lake include:
- The Howard to Beaverhouse Lake run: a 30 km trip ideal for novices.
Located about 10 km north of Highway 66 of Highway 672, it takes
the tripper across three gorgeous lakes. There are no portages
and the trip can be made into a roundtrip journey. Campsites dot
the shoreline. Watch out for the pictographs to be found the on
the rock faces along the upper channel leading to Beaverhouse
Lake.
- Whitewater excitement can be found along the historic Larder
River. Roughly 50 km in length, this run takes one across several
small lakes as well as along the Larder River itself. The starting
point is just east of Highway 66 past the communities of Larder
Lake and Virginiatown on the Raven Lake access road. The run ends
at Wendigo Lake at the south end of the route off Highways 624
and 569 near the junction with Highway 11.
