Cross Country Ski & Walking Trails

Trail Map

KL’s first choice in cross-country skiing is found behind the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex. Here you will find a range of trails designed to challenge, stimulate and relax you.

The trails are groomed by volunteers weekly, or after a substantial snowfall. They are available for use at no charge during the prime winter skiing months - usually late December until late February (depending on snow conditions). The walking trails are also looked after by volunteers and are available at no charge.

Complex ski trails are approximately 8 km in length and are made up of six loops. Yellow, blue, red, brown, purple and green. The blue, red and half of the green loop are single tracked and one direction, all other loops are either double tracked or single tracked allowing skaters half the trail and can be skied in either direction.

The walking trails are approximately 4.7 km in length and are made up of four loops. Yellow, red, brown and Nowry Lake. 'The trails can be hiked in combination and in either direction, follow the "walking signs". Areas of the trails can become wet after heavy rains; however work is progressing on these areas to minimize water hazards. The trails are not difficult but they are 'primitive" trails with only minimal improvements.

Difficulty ranges for skiing from easy (novice) blue to more difficult (advanced) red. The rest of the loops yellow, brown and purple are designated as moderate (intermediate). The green (with extension) is now classified as moderate. All skiers who use the trails should be aware that there is inherent danger in winter sport activities and to not overestimate their ability.

The trails are not patrolled therefore it is recommended that any skier or walker using the trails advise friends or family as to where they are and what time they are expected at home.
