The Town of Kirkland Lake is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for residents and visitors alike to enjoy. That’s why we’ve moved to eliminate the use of cosmetic pesticides on all Town property, such as parks, lawns and playfields. This is in response to growing public concern about the effect of pesticides on human health and the environment.
We ask that you consider doing the same. Moving to a natural regime of pest prevention and control doesn't have to be expensive or excessively time consuming. Follow some simple lawn care tips, or use natural alternatives to managing pests and controlling weeds. Health Canada’s website www.healthylawns.net is an excellent source of information. It may take a little more time and effort but you will be rewarded with a lush green lawn or garden that will be safe for the people (and pets) you care about.
If you feel pesticides are required, then consider engaging a qualified lawn care professional. These people have the training and expertise required to handle chemicals properly. And don’t forget to post warnings so people can take the appropriate measures to protect themselves.
Protecting the environment and protecting ourselves. It isn’t just the smart thing to do...it’s the right thing.
