| About the House of Remembrance |

|
This Memorial is to remind the youth of today what the memory of our departed Comrades who fought in the wars, means to them and all humanity. They kept our country free so that we as citizens can enjoy our lives in a democratic society.
The House contains the names of over 900 veterans and Legion members, who are buried in the Kirkland Lake Cemetery. This project started in 1997. The ceiling is cedar with a skylight to give more light. There are two entrances on the south and west side. There is no electricity and very little upkeep. It is built at the entrance to the cemetery, with two flag poles beside it where the original Memorial was located.
In less than 5 months, over $21,000 was raised to build the House, all new name boards and new name tags, an interlocking brick sidewalk leading to both entrances, new flags and a stained glass poppy to be hung inside. Shrubbery was donated and planted by the Horticultural Society. |
