The Francophone community played an important role in the history
of Kirkland Lake. Their hard work and perseverance helped turn a
rough and tumble gold mining camp into one of the best little towns
in Northern Ontario. Their contributions in the arts, sports and
business helped the community prosper. And their sheer vibrancy
and zest for life made KL one of the best places to live.
Francophone Ontarians comprise roughly 20% of the Kirkland Lake’s
population. The community currently comprises roughly 20% of KL's
population. It is very active, as is reflected in the number of
Francophone social and cultural organizations, health providers
and educational facilities available locally.
