Home Ownership

One of Kirkland Lake's major attractions is the availability of affordable housing. Most people in the community own their houses. Of the 3,840 homes listed in the 2001 census, the majority, 2,335, are privately owned. This reflects the generally lower prices; a seven year old three bedroom home with a large garage, air conditioning, finished basement, etc. averages $95,000. Water front property located 15 minutes from the downtown can be purchased for under $150,000.

Rental Properties

KL has a large stock of residential rental properties available. Usually first and last month rent is required. A damage deposit may also be requested. Utilities may or may not be included. To find available units, it is best to rely on word or mouth referrals or to simply wander the town.

Subsidized Housing

A variety of geared to income and subsidized units are available in town for families, single adults, seniors and special needs individuals. The Kirkland Lake Non-Profit Housing Corporation provides
assessment services and housing referrals to providers.
