There are a number of different sources of assistance and advice
to people facing real estate related problems, such as landlord
tenant disputes, property tax assessment, etc. The following list
is by no means complete.
General
- E-Laws
(Ontario) is a website where you can view the text of the
Tenant Protection Act and its regulations, and other Ontario statutes
and regulations.
- Legal Aid
Ontario provides information about legal aid and the location
of community legal clinics throughout Ontario. Legal Aid is available
to low income individuals and disadvantaged communities for a
variety of legal problems, including criminal matters, family
disputes, immigration and refugee hearings and poverty law issues
such as landlord/tenant disputes, disability support and family
benefits payments.
Landlord/Tenant Issues
- Community
Legal Education Ontario has links to a variety of pamphlets
in PDF Format, including:
- Care Homes
- Harassment & discrimination
- How to make an application to the Tribunal
- If your landlord doesn't pay the mortgage
- Maintenance & repairs
- Moving out
- Rent increases
- What tenants need to know about the law
- When can your landlord take your stuff?
- Eviction ( Information about the eviction notice, grounds
for eviction and tenants' rights)

Taxation and Assessment
- Municipal Proptery
Assessment Corporation provides municipalities with a wide
range of assessment services, which includes preparing an annual
assessment roll for use by a municipality in calculating property
taxes. If you disagree with your assessment, you can appeal to
MPAC for a reassessment.
- Assessment
Review Board . If you are not satisfied with MPAC’s reassessment,
you can apply to the ARB. The ARB is an independent tribunal of
the Province of Ontario. Both the property owner and MPAC will
be asked to appear at a hearing to present evidence to support
their arguments.
