The Town of Kirkland Lake has contracted with the Ontario Provincial
Police for policing services in Kirkland Lake. In addition to the
regular OPP personnel, the municipality employs secretarial staff,
a court case manager/supervisor and special constables responsible
for court security and the enforcement of municipal bylaws.
The management of local policing issues between the OPP and the town
is coordinated through the Kirkland Lake Police Services Board. This
Board consists of five members: two are Provincial appointees;
one is a municipal appointee; and two are representatives of the town
council. The Board, in concert with the Detachment Commander (Chief
of Police), determines objectives and priorities with respect to the
services provided.
