The Kirkland Lake Fire Services actively encourage public participation
in fire prevention. Throughout the year, the Service conducts media
campaigns, and organizes activities to promote awareness of common
fire dangers at home, at school and at work. Popular events include
the annual fire awareness poster contest, visits by Sparky, and
the “Chief for a Day” contest.
Fire Services also visits our schools with the Sparky Hazard House.
This is a replica of a normal home. The home is filled with hazardous
conditions or situations that the students must identify and correct
to make the home fire safe. Also available is Sparky, our firedog
mascot. Sparky is usually available for fire safety activities in
our schools and public education events.
