The Treasury Division is responsible for the effective management of the public funds with which the Corporation is entrusted, according to provincial statutes and municipal by-laws.

The Division administers the Town's assets and liabilities. It also provides financial analysis and advice to Council, various committees and departments.

Other major responsibilities of the Division include:

• The custody and investment of all liquid assets;
• Payment of all legitimate accounts including salaries and wages;
• Billing, collection, receipting and banking of Town revenue from all sources;
• Cash flow forecasting;
• Arrangement of temporary borrowing and issue of long term debt in the public market;
• Development, maintenance and monitoring of appropriate internal controls;
• Preparation of financial statements and information returns as required by various government agencies, Council and its committees, government and municipal auditors, the public (tax brochures) and lenders (debenture prospectus).;
• Maintenance of accounting records for the effective management and control of the Town’s financial affairs and which satisfy statutory reporting requirement;
• The direction and supervision of the preparation of operating and capital budgets and computation of the water and tax rates.
