A marriage licence
is valid for a period of three (3) months from the date of issue so be sure to have a wedding date set prior to obtaining the licence.
If either party has been divorced within Canada, the original or
court certified copy of the Decree Absolute or Certificate of Divorce
must be shown. Please note that a Judgment issued by the Court is
not acceptable proof of divorce. Divorced women must complete and
sign the application form in their legal name or the name, which
appears on their Birth Certificate.
While both parties must sign the Marriage Licence application form,
only one party needs to be present at the Municipal Offices in order
for a marriage licence to be issued. Birth certificates and photo identification for both
parties must be presented as well. The license fee is $100.00. For more inforamtion call the Deputy Clerk at 567 9361,
ext. 238.
Lottery License
Not-for-profit groups (including schools, churches and sports team)
planning to raise money through raffles require a lottery license.
Lottery licensing ensures the fair conduct of fundraising events
such as bingo, raffles, Nevada break-open tickets, and bazaars by
enforcing and monitoring lottery regulations. Applications for all
events are available at the Town Hall. Please allow 2-3 days for
processing each application. A license fee of 3% of the prize value
applies.
The Alcohol
and Gaming Commission of Ontario is responsible for processing
lottery licence and gaming information. We have presented a direct
link to some of the most commonly requested documentation below.

Freedom of Information
The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act
(MFIPPA) provides individuals with a right of access to certain records
and personal information under the custody or control of the Town.
The purpose of the MFIPPA is two-fold, providing both access to information
and protection from access to information under specific guidelines.
Please contact the Clerk's Office for assistance, as in many cases,
information is readily available to the public and you will not need
to make a formal request. The municipality may, in some cases, restrict
access to certain documents to protect individual privacy or the public
interest. Access to Information
Request Process
- Requesters must write a letter stating that they are asking
for information under the Municipal Freedom of Information and
Protection of Privacy Act and enclose the $5.00 access fee. Cheques
should be made payable to the Town of Kirkland Lake.
- The "records" that are being requested are located and within
30 days of receiving the request, the decision to either release
the "records" entirely, in part or to deny access to them is made.
This decision is based on the provisions of the Act and on relevant
Orders that have been issued by the Information and Privacy Commissioner
(IPC).
- The Town can charge fees it spent on photocopying the records
$0.50/page or the time staff spent searching and reviewing the
records ($8/15 minutes). The requester will be given a fee estimate
prior to the completion of the request.
- The request will receive a decision letter enclosing the records
that are being released and explaining why access is being denied
to other records in part or entirely.
- If the requester is not happy with the decision, he/she has
the option to ask the Information & Privacy Commissioner of Ontario
to review the Town's decision.
Commissioner
of Oaths
The Clerk is recognized as a Commissioner of Oaths. If you require
the service of a Commissioner of Oaths, you must attend the Town
Hall in person and may be requested to provide 2 pieces of personal identification (photo and signature).
There is a $15.00 charge for each document that the Clerk is asked
to commission.
