The Museum of
Northern History at the Sir Harry Oakes Château is a living
testament to Kirkland’s rich past and an inspiration for
the future. Its primary
goal is to collect,
preserve, display and interpret natural specimens, artifacts,
documents, books and other relevant materials that illustrate
the general history of man and nature in Northeastern Ontario,
and specifically in the Kirkland Lake area. The Chateau,
with its unique architecture and atmosphere, frequently
serves as a host to displays of modern arts and crafts by
local and visiting artists, and as a public facility to
host special events, workshops, conferences, etc. As a result,
the museum plays a pivotal role in the economic, social,
cultural and educational life of Kirkland Lake.
