| Q | I want to start up a new business in Kirkland Lake. I need money. Will the Town help me? |
| A | The town is only a facilitator in the business development process. It does not directly fund or invest in any business activities, build or operate facilities. We suggest that, in addition to the established banks and lending institutions, you contact KDCDC (www.kdcdc.com) , Temfund (http://www.nt.net/%7Etemfund/index.html) or the Business Development Bank of Canada to see if you qualify for financial assistance. |

| Q | My property assessment went up 20% over the past year. Why did the town do this? How do I get this changed? |
| A | The Town does not set property assessments. That is done by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation. You can visit them at www.mpac.ca to learn more about what they do and how they do it.If you do not agree with the assessment you have, contact them directly.

| Q | Why does the town not accept online payments for water bills, taxes, etc. |
| A | Town bills can be paid online through your chosen financial institution.
We have carefully considered the issue of accepting online payments. But we felt that we could not contribute very much to the ease of use, support and convenience that is already available through established financial institutions. Furthermore, the cost of re-arranging our systems and processes to mirror that already offered by financial institutions is prohibitive at this time. That is not to say we are not open to the idea however. If there is sufficient demand from our rate payers, we will reconsider it. |
