Kirkland Lake offers business reliable and economical
utilities.
Electricity
Kirkland Lake’s electricity is drawn from the
high voltage transmission system operated by Hydro
One Networks Inc.
Voltages available to commercial operations, institutions, and
manufacturing and processing plants located within the community
are 120/240 volts single phase, 240 volts 3 phase, 120/208 volts
3 phase 4 wire, and 347/600 volts 3 phase 4 wire. Large industrial
users (over 2,000 kW) are supplied at 12,000 volts or greater.
Natural Gas
Union Gas ( www.uniongas.com
) supplies natural gas to the Kirkland Lake residential as well
as commercial and industrial markets. Line size varies from 2 to
8 inches, and line pressure varies according to the size and needs
of the customer. To see rate information, visit http://www.uniongas.com/aboutus/regulatory/rates/ratesindex.asp#residentialrates.
Water/Sewage
Kirkland Lake draws its water supply from Gull Lake and McTavish
Lake. The Lionel Sherratt Water Treatment Plant, completed in 1997,
supplies Kirkland Lake proper, including Chaput Hughes and Swastika.
This plant has a capacity of 5 million gallons per day but operates
at an average of 2.5 million gallons per day.
Wastewater from the community is collected through a series of
collectors, trunklines and sanitary lift stations and treated in
a Town owned but OCWA operated wastewater treatment plant situated
on Comfort Street. Swastika is serviced separately and wastewater
is treated in a municipally owned and operated wastewater treatment
plant located on Otto Lake.
