The Economic Development Division is the primary agency responsible
for marketing Kirkland Lake to outside investors and tourists.
Mandate:
- To identify and promote economic and community development opportunities
for Kirkland Lake;
- To initiate or participate in projects to improve the overall
attractiveness of the community as an investment choice or tourism
destination;
- To market the community to potential investors and tourists;
- To liaise with potential investors and tourists.
Services:
- Marketing: Placing media advertisements; creation
of marketing material; representation at trade shows, etc. that
will benefit the community as a whole.
- Research: Current and relevant economic data,
including demographic, sectoral analyses and information on federal
and provincial government programs and services.
- Capacity Building: Commissioning of studies
and participation in projects or partnerships designed to improve
the attractiveness, competitiveness and general ability of local
business community to attract investor/tourist interest.
- Business Facilitation: Introduction to local
businesses and services, local organizations such as the Kirkland
and District Community Development Corporation, the Temiskaming
Development Fund and the Kirkland Lake and District Chamber of
Commerce, as well as provincial and federal agencies.
- Site Location Assistance: Preliminary property
searches, initial liaison with potential property owners, developers
and municipal administration, and introduction to facilitating
agencies.
- Representation: Advocating on behalf of the
business community to municipal, provincial and federal authorities
on issues that affect the community’s economic well-being.
The Division welcomes any ideas that will increase
investment in Kirkland Lake or the number of tourists visiting our
district. If you have a good idea, come in and talk to us. But please
remember: the Division is only a facilitator in the business process.
It does not directly fund or invest in any business activities,
build or operate facilities, act as a sole proponent or offer direct
services to tourists. Any initiative must have a proponent who is
committed to carrying the idea through to fruition. We’re here to
