Introduction

IntroductionIndex of Economic and Statistical Information; KL @ a Glance

Kirkland Lake is one of the best environments for new businesses in northeastern Ontario. Over the past two years, the local economy has enjoyed steady growth. How did this happen? Perseverance, hard work and pure luck all had something to do with it.

  • The real credit goes to the people of Kirkland Lake. In the wake of the painful restructuring that followed the closing of the mines in the 1990’s, KL’ers learned how to work better and smarter. They invested in themselves through education and skills development. According to local employers, they are now among the most productive and capable in the region; a fact recognized by regional business leaders like the Murdoch Group as well as international companies like Siemens Canada.

  • Businesses and the community worked hard to chart new courses. Companies like Goldbelt Industrial Supply, that grew up with the local mining industry now hold supply contracts throughout northeastern Ontario and Quebec. Where KL had only mines before, they now have a small but vibrant environmental solutions industry. And the community isn’t afraid of taking chances and betting on its future with projects like Hockey Heritage North, which will establish KL as a major tourism draw.

  • Foxpoint Resources, a Canadian junior mining company, didn’t believe that the Kirkland Gold Camp was tapped out. They explored the old mines and found new gold. Indeed, they found enough new gold to plan a 50-year operating life. Foxpoint, now Kirkland Lake Gold Inc., has hired 300 people. And we’re not talking about shifting existing employees from one project to another. These are new jobs attracting new people into the community. And future growth seems likely, as mines open in Matheson and new properties are developed throughout the district.

  • Success breeds success. Since Kirkland Lake Gold began operations, new consumer enterprises have opened. These include service businesses like On the Run fitness centre, a Curves franchise; Hart Department store and Box Office Entertainment, a Radio Shack franchise.

Kirkland Lake has a new attitude and new prospects. And we offer you new opportunities. Give us a call today at 1 800 249 8933 or email Wilfred Hass to see why KL is the right environment for your business.
